Maiolica

These works develop the painting techniques and narrative style characteristic of Italian Maiolica from the 17th century to engage issues of image, form and food consumption. The imagery relates to the tensions posed by pottery, between form, containment and surface, tensions that resonate with the body as figure and as site of consumption. This troubles the distinction between inside and outside, openness and containment of both subjects and objects.
