Porcelain

These porcelain sculptures explore how assembling cast parts from plaster moulds of decorative and everyday objects makes openings to realign familiar domestic display objects with new modes of recognition. The objects activate tensions of variable compression and condensation through dynamics of assembly that intensify the relation between object and gesture, form and display.

This approach to assembling form was developed in relation to my research into the popularity, aesthetics and fabrication techniques of Staffordshire display objects of the early 19th century, and their influence on new notions of subjectivity that became widespread in the period.
